The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated on June 21 with much enthusiasm across various parts of the world. Several events were organised on this day to create awareness among the people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national celebrations at the iconic Red Road in Kolkata. The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga is ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing ‘ that emphasizes the importance of Yoga for all ages.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual discipline that originated in India. It seeks to harmonize the body, breath and mind. Modern practices typically integrate physical postures, breath control and meditation to improve wellness and flexibility. Yoga is a holistic practice. It offers comprehensive benefits for the body and mind, including increased flexibility, stress reduction and improved cardiovascular health.

Odisha joined the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga with large-scale public participation. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi participated in the state-level celebrations in Bhubaneswar. In Bargarh, the district-level celebration took place at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium. Bargarh MLA Ashwini Sarangi, District Collector Aditya Goyal, ADM Madhuchhanda Sahu and other dignitaries graced the occasion. The guests highlighted the importance of Yoga in their speeches. Students from different educational institutions and Yoga enthusiasts took part in the event.
